Southern California Public Radio: How prepared are we for XDR bacteria?

AMR Action Fund CEO Henry Skinner joined Southern California Public Radio’s “AirTalk with Larry Mantle” to discuss the discovery of a strain of extensively drug-resistant Shigella sonnei that appears to be spreading in Los Angeles.

The conversation focused on the evolution and spread of the pathogen, as well as the broader global threat of AMR and the lack of investment into new antibiotics.

“We’re not investing in new innovation. The problem is not science, the problem is economics,” Skinner said, noting the need for new models and policies to appropriately value antibiotics and encourage investment into the field.
